Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, though there are some restrictions in most states. Every state has its own Cottage Food Laws which regulate the purchase and sale of homemade foods. Utah however has expanded the purchase and sale of homemade food under House Bill 181, Home Consumption and Homemade Food Act, which allows the purchase and sale of almost any homemade food so long as it has appropriate disclosures (ingredients, allergens, etc) and does not contain meat. For home cooks wanting to sell meat products, they can operate under House Bill 0094, which allows them to obtain a license from the local health department to sell food from home.
This is a brand new food experience. Rather than getting food from the same old restaurants, you can now order delicious homemade food from people in your neighborhood. Local Chow is about experiencing authentic, home made food, anytime you want it. Some cooks offer take out only, others offer delivery.
You can pay through the app with card, Apple Pay, or Paypal.
In order to be sure the cooks get paid for the food they make, we require payment when the order is placed. If there are any issues with the food (i.e. you didn’t receive it in time, etc.) Please contact the cook first for a refund. If there are issues that cannot be resolved by speaking with the cook directly, please contact us.
Sellers receive a notification for every order as soon as it is placed. Your order will show up in your “Order History” tab when it is received.
The app will reveal the cook’s contact phone number for you to call if you can’t find the pick up location. Cooks will know they should expect to be contacted if their pickup location is sometimes hard to find.
Because some items take longer to prepare than others (for example, home made cheese cake), each item will have its own cancelation policy. Please respect that people who sell food on our app put a lot of time and effort into what they are doing, and canceling orders last minute may not be possible due to the nature of the food being prepared.
This will be determined by the food laws in your state. Click here to review the laws in your state.
Yes! As someone who is making food, we want you to be completely free to set your own schedule. Make sure you complete your cook profile and then create your food listings from the side menu!
We recommend cheap, recyclable, single-use food containers. But it is up to you. People generally like the one time use containers best because it is fresh and clean.
If you are going on vacation, or just need to take a break from cooking, you can pause your listings in the Local Chow app so they don’t show up until you are ready to start cooking again.
If someone buys your food and you aren’t able to fulfill it, please reach out to us here and we will contact the customer and explain the situation and issue them a refund.
Currently, all accounts are based on control of your phone number. Verifying your phone number in the Cook Profile view should restore your existing seller profile and food listings.
Just like restaurants, people who make and sell food on this app have certain hours that food is available to pick up. We let everyone who wants to sell food on the app designate their own hours so that they can sell as much or as little as they would like. The times shown are set by the person making the food to ensure freshness and the highest quality possible.
